Ralph Smith is a veteran who has been confined to a wheelchair for the last 20 years. Mr. Smith is an Ambassador Volunteer at the Medical Center giving directions to Veterans and visitor to our Medical Center. He volunteers five days a week for approximately 6 hours each day and has accumulated more than 54,000 volunteer hours. Mr. Smith also handles the Lost and Found Department which is under Voluntary Service.

He enjoys talking with Veterans and sharing military stories. Mr. Smith served as a frogman which would be comparable to the modern day Navy Seal.

He is dedicated to his position as a Volunteer and through the Colonial Region Paralyzed Veterans of America he spearheads programs, coordinates events and directs the distribution of donations that have directly enhanced the care of our residents and patients, while increasing staff morale.

His dedication to America's veterans is a reminder to us all of our responsibility to contribute to a cause greater than oneself.
