Maxine B.

Missoula, MT
Nominated by Maria Phillips

Volunteered for:

Community Medical Center

Length of Service:

40 hours per month for 27 years

January 20, 2014

Maxine began volunteering at Community Medical Center in the early 1990's. I came to work in the Education Department at CMC in 1996. Over the last 17 years our entire staff has changed many times over with the exception of Maxine. Maxine has some recent health complications and was hoptialized and then homebound for 4 months. Maxine returned to work in October 2013 with her same spirt and dedication. She lives alone and drives herself to complete her volunteer duties. Maxine have volunteered for the Education, Human Resources, Quality Risk Management, Administration, Marketing, and Foundation Departments at our hospital. She also checks in donors for our on site Red Cross Blood Drives. Maxine is considered the "head" volunteer at CMC and is somewhat of a icon. Staff often request her by name for projects they need done the "right way". Maxine has a fun personality and a firey spirit. I love working with Maxine and am so thankful to call her my peer. Maxine says, "I love to volunteer and get out of the house becasue sitting home just makes me dwell on her aches and pains." An intersting fact about Maxine is that she is a bit of a pioneer woman. She and her husband actually ran a saw mill in the 1940's and she worked right along side her husband. Maxine is my hero..
