My Great Grandma Katy Jo Powers is involved in more organizations and does more service projecst and activites than most high school or college student has ever thought about being involved in. She has always enjoyed donating her time and energy to help others. She was a Home- Economic teacher at Haysi High School for over 30 years and has taught many students who remember her today. She enjoys volunteering because it keeps her active and enjoying every second of life. She is very active in her Church, Haysi Presbyterian, and still takes part in activites of her College Soriety Delta Kappa Gamma. She is a member of the Partners, an organization who helps to bring the community together and plan events for residents of Dickenson County to enjoy. She is also a member of The Red Hat Society, Friends of the Russell Fork, and is active in an exercise class three times a week, and attends Physical Therapy to stay in motion. Her and her lifelong friends also have a breakfast club they enjoy going to every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday after exercise. Volunteering is her passion and she has put in countless numbers of hours over the years and has gotten nothing but joy from it. I am sure that I am leaving off many of the activies she is involved in, if she is chosen for this honorable reward, I am sure there are many other charity and volunteer services she would love to share with you. She is very humble and yet has so many stories of life experiences and history to share.

Is this you? If you were nominated by someone else and do not wish to take part in this contest, opt out here.
