Volunteered for:

Willow Gardens Care Center

Length of Service:

45 hours per month for 3 years

February 5, 2014

Judy D. began volunteering for Willow Gardens Care Center (a long-term care facility) when her delightful mother became a resident over three years ago. Her wonderful smile makes the residents quickly feel at ease when she arrives shortly after lunch and stays until supper time assisting with several events throughout the afternoon.

During our monthly birthday party celebration, she becomes a
waitress--cheerfully delivering cake and refreshments to all
who attend. She can dance, too, and her energy generates
enthusiasm during any social event. Dominoes or BINGO anyone?
Out comes the referee hat, as Judy helps us make sure all participants play fair and get along well with their neighbor.

All aboard for outings as she puts on her conductor's hat. A trip to the fine arts museum required leadership and patience to keep the tour train on time. She didn't bat an eye when questions about Grant Wood were repeated over and over again; she just politely answered the same questions (over and over again). Art Instructor is yet another hat Judy can place on top of her head. Glitter and glue adorn her outfit for the day, and she keeps the residents on task. Pet Therapy is enhanced by her charming kitty, Jady, who strolls the hallways in a buggy and generates sweet smiles and reminiscing about pets they used to cherish.

The multi-talented Judy is not only a woman who wears many hats at Willow, she is a great friend to staff and residents alike. She donates her invaluable time and money, purchasing prizes and decorating resident's door with festive holiday cheer. She is sincerely appreciated, and we have a well-rounded recreational program because of Judy.
