Ila began to volunteer after her husband's death. She says she set goals for herself and volunteering was one of them. She has faithfully volunteered for us and continues to exceed expectations in all areas of volunteer duties. Ila enjoys being with and helping people. She presents a calm assurance to our participants that helps them to feel comfortable. Our agency is a day care center for older adults who have been diagnosed with a variety of dementia diseases, Parkinson's, emotional disturbances and life long disabilities such a Down's syndrom. Participants age range is approximately 40 to 100. Ila is always willing to do anything that is asked of her; domestic jobs like setting tables for lunch and assisting in activities which we change-up every 45 minutes. She does an amazing job of providing support to staff during all planned activities. She has been proactive in developing and leading a book club, and involves participants in the choosing of a book to read. She then reads to them and a discussion follows the day's reading. At the beginning of the next time together, she reviews the material from last time. Ila maintains good communication with the volunteer coordinator and with staff about days she cannot volunteer, which is very rare. She is dependable and prompt.
Ila says of her volunteer time here, "I enjoy it so much! I like getting to know the participants and hearing their stories. I plan my personal time around my schedule at Evergreen!"
