Edna Rogers deserves this Salute to Senior Service because she is so dedicated to her community. Edna has been a dedicated volunteer at The Orchard for almost two years now. She faithfully comes to our facility two days a week to help with Bible study and bingo. She also visits with residents who are bedridden and don't receive visitors. Edna is 89 years old and volunteers almost 40 hours a month! Edna was driving by The Orchard one day and saw a sign posted stating, "Now accepting volunteer applications HS Juniors and Seniors." Edna told me she thought, "I'm a senior and I am going to apply." She did and we are so thankful for her. Some days it is such a relief to know she is going to be here to see our residents. We don't always have the time to visit for extended periods of time, but Edna does and it's nice knowing that our resident's social needs are being met and that they are not lonely. Edna not only volunteers at The Orchard, but also at the Jail visiting inmates who don't get visitors. She hopes to be a positive inspiration to them and encourages them to try to stay out of trouble when they are released. Edna also helps needy families who may need groceries, clothing and even rides to appointments and to school. Edna is a positive role model for all of us and to other seniors in our community. She is a shining example that you are never too old to help someone. I hope that when I retire I have as much compassion, wisdom and energy as Mrs. Edna Rogers.
