Dianne P.

Fairhaven, MA
Nominated by Anne Silvia

Volunteered for:

Fairhaven Council on Aging

Length of Service:

30 hours per month for 8 years

February 24, 2014

Dianne Perkins has been volunteering at the Fairhaven Council on Aging as a SHINE Councilor for 8 years. Her dedication to the seniors of the Town of Fairhaven and surrounding towns is invaluable. She meets with seniors, 60 years and older, by appointment and sorts through mounds of paperwork to simplify and assist seniors with their medicare planning, masshealth applications, prescription plans and doing this all with a smile and happy heart. Not only does she assist seniors at the center, she is willing to assist "snow bird" in Florida over the phone as well as go to peoples home who cannot get to the center. Most of the paperwork that is required as part of SHINE is done by Dianne at her home in addition to the hours she spends here at the center. To say Dianne goes above and beyond is an understatement. Dianne was given an award in November 2013 by the Friends of the Fairhaven Council on Aging in appreciation for all the hard work and commitment in improving the lives of the seniors. Dianne spends several hours per year attending SHINE training classes ensuring she has all updated rule and regs necessary to guide the seniors in making the best choice for their individual needs.During the months of open enrollment, Dianne doubles her volunteer hours per week to be sure all seniors in need get her undivided attention. The red tape that goes along with choosing the right medicare plan is overwhelming, confusing and very stressful, but if a senior is lucky enough to have Dianne as their councilor, they can leave with peace of mind knowing they have been successfully guided to the right decsion.
The staff and seniors at the Fairhaven Council on Aging are extremely grateful to have Dianne Perkins as part of this team for her countless hours, joyful personality and commitment in making a difference in the lives of a senior.
