Trudi Lain is being nominated because she has demonstrated exceptional volunteerism her entire adult life. She has over twenty years of volunteer service in Desert Hot Springs alone. Trudi has been a resident in the City of Desert Hot Springs for twenty four years.
Trudi began volunteering in Illinois in the 1940s for her church as the Secretary. Trudi became active with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary (VFWA) as she took a lead role on several committees such as organizing group social events. She participated in VFWA parades and gatherings. Trudi overlapped her volunteer work with a career in the medical field as a Certified Medical Transcriptionist for doctors while she raised a family. After having her three children John, Gary and Vicki, her volunteer efforts quickly expanded to Milk Chairman for her children's school and Cub Scout Secretary.
Trudi has travelled to many foreign countries: to list a few, France, Germany, Switzerland, Brazil, Jamaica, Mexico and Tahiti. She would often travel from Illinois to California on vacation to visit family in Southern California. She heard about the wonders of the Desert Hot Springs' water, spas and weather. She finally experienced DHS on vacation in the 1960s, enjoying the local spas and nearby relatives. Trudi knew she would someday move to California to live in Desert Hot Springs.
In the 1980s she made the dream a reality as she moved across country to Desert Hot Springs. Trudi had employment waiting for her at the Eisenhower Medical Center where she was a Certified Medical Transcriber. She volunteered her time outside of work to assist with the Halloween Haunted Ship for the Coachella Valley children at the hospital. In the late 1990s and at the start of the new millennium, Trudi retired from the medical field ending her career at Mountain View Medical Clinic in DHS. Then she started volunteering for the Desert Hot Springs community full time.
Trudi began volunteering for the DHS Chamber of Commerce and the DHS Senior Center. For the Chamber she served as Volunteer for many years, sharing visitor information, promoting the award winning water, spas/pools and weather. She also volunteered as an office assistant.
Trudi continues to commit her time to the Senior Center. She devotes her time and energy every Tuesday as Volunteer Receptionist, welcoming clients and overseeing one of the busiest days at the Center. On Mondays she is one of the Bingo leaders. She also substitutes when needed as Receptionist. Trudi participates in almost all special events and activities at the Senior Center and stays healthy by attending the twice a week Exercise Class. She says the Center is like her second family and it shows. She attends daily; she enjoys seeing the people, socializing and the friendships.
Trudi's inspiration is her faith and trust in God. She finds motivation in her passion for helping others. Trudi enjoys meeting people, answering calls with questions and making referrals; she loves to learn and research how to help others. She says it is rewarding to connect people to resources and services.
Trudi is always positive and happy and she says she does not enjoy negativity; you will never hear her complain about her aches and pains. Trudi's goal in life is to stay healthy, happy and active as long as she can.
