Having worked with Tom on the initial planning of a Cleveland Park Village, I want to echo all of Ms. Fisher's comments. To is, indeed, a "role model volunteer"--regardless of his pro bono activities, which extend over decades. Home Instead couldn't select a more worthy recipient of this award.

I'm so happy to see that a very deserving servant/leader Tom F. has been nominated! Iona simply could not meet the rising needs of seniors and families without the dedication and service of our volunteer corps, and Tom is a shining example. There is no project Tom will not take on and follow through on, and he always makes time for the most personal services to seniors who rely on not only his time, but his kindness. He is teaching us all that volunteering is a lifelong calling - thank you Tom!

The Cleveland Park Citizens Association took on the daunting task of trying to facilitate the creation of an Aging in Place program in Cleveland Park. Tom volunteered to help immediately. His insight, enthusiasm and organizational skills helped move the initiative forward immensely. Today, a Cleveland Park Village is close to becoming a reality, thanks in large part to Tom's contribution.

Tom Fox is a neighbor and a leader in the District of Columbia. He is a member of the Cleveland Park Village formation committee and has been instrumental in moving from the original concept stage through survey development, distribution & assessment to drafting the Articles of Incorporation documentation. I look forward to volunteering with the Cleveland Park Village in the near future, thanks to neighbors like Tom who go above and beyond to foster a strong community and make life better for many people they might not ever meet. Thank you for this opportunity to recognize a local hero!

Tom's volunteer service extends to the global community. In fact, he spends more than 15 hours a week with international non-profit organizations alone. He has served on the boards of many organizations that work in developing countries, sometimes for many years. He's well known for his loyalty, which has not flagged now that he's over 70. And, in keeping with his interest in older adults, Tom is a founder of Peace Corps Encore, a program to place retired former Peace Corps volunteers in specialized pro bono positions around the world. This volunteer leader knows how to get good work started at home and abroad and, perhaps more importantly, to stick with it and keep it going.
