When Bud's great-granddaughter, Gracie Claborn, was diagnosed with leukemia in 2009 Bud created the "Gracie's Promise" organization in cooperation with All Saints Episcopal Church in Torrington. Gracie's Promise is a 501(c)3 qualified charity that raises money for families with children under 18 who have suffered catastrophic illness or injury and need additional financial support.

There is no magic pocketbook to fund this organization, though, so Bud, family, friends, church acquaintances and the larger Torrington, Wyoming, and area communities have rallied to raise the funds necessary to keep the organization alive and active.

Now, after 5 years of existence, Gracie has been cancer free for nearly three years and her family has received no additional support for that same amount of time. The organization continues to raise money through a variety of ways, including raffles, silent auctions, card-sharing programs, 5K runs, motorcycle rallies, and general donations at craft fairs, county fairs, and other fundraisers across Southeast Wyoming and into Northern Colorado. Across the five years, Gracie's Promise has provided funding as available and needed to over 30 families in Wyoming, Colorado, western Nebraska, Utah, and South Dakota. They are currently helping to support 18 families. They'd help more if there were more funds available...so Bud 's and the Gracie's Promise volunteers task is neverending

Bud has been the thoughtful founder, tireless worker and primary fundraiser acroos the entire time. He has dedicated most of his available time, all of his energies, and more than a little of his own money to create, manage, and perpetuate this singular example of people with hearts and a cause coming together for the betterment of those in deep financial need. visit the "graciespromise.org" website to see many examples of what the organization is...and know that everything you see there is, directly or indirectly, the result of his work, his families support, and his extended community involvement.
