We are honored to recommend Coastal Hospice Patient Care Volunteer Paul Gross for the Salute to Senior Service Award. Paul moved from New Jersey to the Eastern Shore of Maryland to enjoy retirement and found he was still drawn to help hospice patients. He became a hospice volunteer in the 90's working with a hospice in New Jersey and has volunteered with Coastal Hospice since January 23, 2011. Paul's contributions have been and continue to be, extremely valuable to preserving the dignity and quality of life for our Coastal Hospice patients.
Paul's volunteer hours are frequently spent talking with patients and family members during the most trying of times. He is often found holding the hand of a patient, listening while they talk about their lives, their family, hopes and fears. People are very comfortable opening up with Paul; they can laugh, cry and share without judgment. Sharing this special time of life with our patients, learning about the Eastern Shore is a passion for Paul; his dedication has helped many to live their lives to the fullest during their final days.
Paul has graciously accepted the nomination and will tell you he receives much more then he gives. "Patients and family members have so much to share about their lives, the Eastern Shore and family history it's an honor to be a small part of the support Coastal Hospice offers" stated Paul.
Thank you for the opportunity to recognize our wonderful senior volunteer Paul Gross. It takes a special person to visit a patient, who is facing a life limiting illness. His generosity has touched the lives of many of those in our community at their time of greatest need. Our entire community is better for his efforts.
