David originally adopted a couple of young cats from Felines & Friends who were captured during a T/N/R project and were socialized by a volunteer. He decided he wanted to help other cats have a chance for adoption and started fostering feral kittens. However, this soon turned in setting traps to capture the adults to have them sterilized.
To date David has been responsible for the capture of hundreds of cats and kittens. Many times, the calls for help come from people who are feeding a feral colony, but do not have the ability to trap and/or transport them for surgery.
These colonies start out small, but can quickly multiply to 50+ cats. David is currently working on a TNR project where so far, he has transported close the 40 cats to/from the clinic at the Santa Fe Animal Shelter.
Approximately 80% have been female! There are at least another 20 cats yet to be trapped and David is hoping to have this colony 100% sterilized well before spring.
He is also currently raising a kitten after its feral mother rejected it. Each year, David bottle feeds newborn kittens until they can move to other foster homes.
Previous large TNR projects include colonies off Early St and Jorgensen.
Few people in Santa Fe know what an incredible and positive impact on the feral cat population David is responsible for thanks to the hours he dedicates to TNR.
